During the reporting period, the station employment unit engaged in the
following initiatives:
Participation in job fairs:
The Station unit participated in Kentucky Broadcaster Association “Career
Fair” on June 6-11, 2007. The “Career Fair” is hosted by the KBA, as a KBA
member station unit was able to post job opening on special Internet site
allowing station unit to solicit resumes for positions at their stations.
On May 14, 2007the Station unit participated in the Job News Job Fair.
Participation included staffing a booth, accepting resumes, handing out job
description for account executive position and accepting applications.
Kentucky Broadcaster Association (“KBA”) “Career Fair”: Station unit
participated in virtual Career Fair on June 4-10, 2007 hosted by KBA, as a
KBA member the station unit was able to post job opening on special internet
site allowing the station unit to solicit resumes for positions at their stations.
Internship program:
Two interns participated in and completed station employment unit Internship
Program. The objective of this program is to allow students the chance to
work with a major market media group. Through this experience the student
is able to learn more about the broadcasting industry and better evaluate if it is
a career path they would choose.
Provided training to management level personnel to ensure equal
employment opportunity and prevent discrimination
Station Employment unit’s General Manager completed on line training
modules for Workplace Harassment and Equal Employment Opportunity.
Salem Corporate Human Resource Department conducts on-going monthly
training /Q&A with all HR Managers to ensure that each station’s
employment unit is updated on all HR policies. Station employment unit’s HR
Manager participated in each training session this quarter.
Participation in other activities that have been designed to further the
dissemination of information about employment opportunities:
On June 6, 2007 the SEU conducted a one day summer camp program.
Twenty-five children from local Summer Camp Program spent the day
visiting each department following the path of airtime purchased to
participating in voicing a commercial for their school.
The SEU conducted a tour of the radio stations with a Boy Scout troop.
On December 17, 2007 the Station Employment unit conducted a station tour
to Cub Scout Pack (Troop #314) to earn communication patch.
Unit HR Manager attended Greater Louisville Talent Attraction Forum on
February 8, 2008. This was an interactive discussion between the Mayor of
Louisville and local HR professions about the challenges and best practices
for talent attraction in Greater Louisville.
Unit HR Manager attended The University of Louisville Career Development
Center’s open house on January 29, 2008. The open house gave HR
Managers the opportunity to meet the new staff & discuss the new on line
career management system with the team of professionals that each of us will
work with.
